About...

or maybe, how do you work?

My therapeutic approach is very influenced by Gestalt therapy and the polyvagal theory. Complimented by narrative work using creative and active therapeutic approaches, including walking therapy.

Existential themes and metaphor often feature when working with clients.

I work alongside my clients, discovering threads, weaving and connecting these into their stories, themes and felt experiences they have shared.

I am trained to help you understand you!

Hi, I'm John...

I am a Counsellor and Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years clinical, teaching, training, coaching and mentoring experience.

I'm also very human person with a story!

These days, I am a father, grandfather, husband and son with a busy, active personal and professional life. You will normally find me on a board or bike and I still enjoy racing pretty well anything from a motorbike to a paddleboard. If you're unsure where I am you'll probably find me at a start line somewhere!

I have also, after a lifetime searching and with many mistakes along the way, found a home.

I now live in Exmouth, Devon, surrounded by beautiful friends and family and plenty of water. I have benefitted from the healing power of this coastal environment and want the same for my clients.

In recent years I have navigated the turbulent waters of bereavement, compassion fatigue and personal crisis. My own hero's journey has led me to this calm and restful space.

I am not perfect and my life is not stress free, nor is it always happy, but it is beautiful and I value it beyond anything else.

I have immense gratitude for all of the help I have received along the way. I have become stronger than ever because I asked for help.

I would love to be a positive part of your story and hope you will find the bravery to get in contact when you are ready.

Ready?

Let me join you on your path

Therapy centered on you. Whether it’s through walking or narrative or another method that helps your exploration I am here to guide your journey from a single session to working together long term...
